The copper and fiber splicer performs work associated with copper and fiber connections and maintenance for telecommunications and broadband services. The splicer is responsible for maintaining and repairing entire telephone loop/facilities with the ability to work from ladders, poles, and bucket trucks.

Splices underground or multiple conductor cables for the maintenance, installation, removal, and rearrangement of fiber and copper cable as well as the maintenance of single line and associated telecom/apparatus equipment including cross connections to switching equipment; performs fusion and mechanical splicing, determines appropriate applications of splicing products for ISP/OSP fiber optics terminations; maintains records for drafting blueprints, participates in meetings for construction projects; repairs old cases and splices, works with splitter box terminations; builds span lines, installs repeaters; and performs tagging and testing functions on cable pairs; and other related duties.


Qualifications
  • Ability to follow subscriber plant facility records and engineering schematic work prints.
  • Ability to work in software programs for accurate data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to maintain and repair entire telephone loop/facilities.
  • Ability to build span lines, install repeaters and perform tagging and testing functions on cable pairs.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital transmission.
  • Ability to use test equipment (OTDR and power meter) to identify and locate optical and copper faults.
  • Knowledge of copper facilities and fiber networks.
  • Working knowledge of direct termination of fiber-optic connectors including mechanical, epoxy polish, heat cured as well as pigtail splicing methods.
  • Knowledge of splice trays and enclosure storage units.
  • Must know the color code system for cable pairs.
  • Knowledge of bonding and grounding requirements of telecommunications plant.
  • Working knowledge of ISP/OSP fiber optics terminations in splicing products for appropriate application.
  • Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Willing to respond to emergency callouts, work overtime when necessary, weekends, and assigned schedules.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements to maintain a successful safety record.
  • Experience in operating a bucket truck.
  • Requires lifting, pulling, placing, and digging.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. above head.
  • Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as utility vaults.

Job Purpose:
The construction worker will be required to do labor intensive work such as digging, pulling, pushing, and heavy lifting. The individual will be operating heavy machinery such as backhoes, and boring machines for the placement of copper and fiber optic cable as well as working with aerial cable. A CDL license is required to operate the construction vehicles.

Job Description:

Places and maintains cable within underground conduit system; places direct buried cable using plowing, digging, and trenching equipment; installs and removes aerial cable, including installation of messenger strands and transfer of cable and equipment from old poles to new poles; sets poles using a pole truck and digging and bracing equipment; installs central office feeder and distribution cable; requires familiarity with all RUS practices and standards; performs other duties when needed to assist in the operations of the department.

Qualifications and Skills:
CDL Class A driver's license required to transfer to Lineman position
Insurability with company's carrier
Experience in operating construction equipment
Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
Must be willing to work weekends and emergency callouts

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently above head
Adaptable to extreme degrees of weather conditions

Job Scope:
Installation and repair of telephone and broadband services for the following: T1, data, DSL, Adsl, Vdsl, and voice lines using various test equipment, modems, and basic networking knowledge.

Job Description:
The candidate must have a valid driver’s license that would qualify the current company’s carrier to insure the individual for traveling with the use of a company vehicle to residential and business customers for the installation and repair of the company’s services. The candidate is responsible for performing all duties associated with installing and repairing telephone and broadband services. The duties include, but not limited to, grounding and bonding cable, inside wiring and rewiring of residential and business locations including CAT 5 wire, working aloft on ladders and in bucket trucks, and the ability to work in confined spaces, such as closets and crawl spaces. The position will require the use of test meters and interpretation of results. Basic knowledge of electrical theory for understanding and analyzing causes and effects of problems is required in order to trouble shoot and repair the service problem. Broadband services require the use of computers, with basic knowledge of modems, routers, home networking and being familiar with Windows Operating System and its components. The candidate will be working with various types of modems and routers and is required to be familiar with its configurations. When inside the customer’s premises, the individual will be required to respect the customer’s home and business environment, and provide courteous and professional service. The technician is encouraged to recommend Nitco products while at the customer’s premise that may benefit the customers’ needs, such as increasing upload and download speeds and current promotions. Due to the rapid change in technology other duties may be assigned as needed to keep current with the industry.

Qualifications and Skills:

Experience preferred, but may be learned in the following:
Working with test meters – ohm meter, JDSU, 965, and fault locater
Working with cross-connect boxes
Grounding and bonding of cables as well as grounding protectors
Toning of wires and cables
Reading facility maps
Wiring and rewiring residential and business locations
Operating a bucket truck if trained and qualified as per DOT regulations

Knowledge is required in the following:
Computers, laptops, modems and routers
Configuration of different brands of modems and routers
Windows Operating System and its components
DSL, ADSL, VDSL
Electrical theory of shorts, grounds, and opens
Home networking

Abilities:
Ability to lift 50 lbs. above head
Ability to perform duties aloft on a ladder, pole or in a bucket from a bucket truck

Coax OSP Technician

Job Description:

Repairs, and inspects Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks to provide voice, video, and data to residential and commercial customers. Reads and interprets system prints including system design maps and digital drawings. Performs demand maintenance by resolving trouble tickets for service-affecting events. Performs node and end-of-line checks to prevent trouble calls. Checks power supplies, batteries, and cabinets to ensure they are in good working order and reports issues to authorized employees. Responds to status monitoring alarms and identifies and resolves any associated issues with those alarms. Utilizes test equipment and other diagnostic tools to resolve network distribution issues. Provides direction and participates in the repair of escalated technical issues. This position performs preventative maintenance on distribution networks by conducting amp sweeps, checking forward and return signal transmission, measuring signal leakage, ingress, and noise; and evaluating power supply issues. May perform daily monitoring and documentation. This position requires on-call duties and may require work outside of normal business hours in order to complete maintenance or outages.

  • Working knowledge of hybrid fiber coaxial infrastructure design and construction principles for CATV
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required
  • Knowledge and practice of safety regulations in performing job duties
  • Experience in operating a bucket truck

  • Ability to work independently and get along with co-workers
  • Must be willing to work Saturdays and emergency callouts

Sr. Coax OSP Technician

Job Description:

Constructs, builds, repairs, and inspects Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks to provide voice, video, and data to residential and commercial customers. Reads and interprets system prints including system design maps and digital drawings. This position may manage the headend to ensure functionality and compliance with company standards. Monitors system key performance indicators, and manages operations to meet or exceed system goals. Maintains and repairs equipment within the HFC distribution system including customer premises. Performs demand maintenance by resolving trouble tickets for service-affecting events. Performs node and end-of-line checks to prevent trouble calls. Consults with other internal work teams to resolve plant issues. Checks power supplies, batteries, and cabinets to ensure they are in good working order and reports issues to authorized employees. Responds to status monitoring alarms and identifies and resolves any associated issues with those alarms. Utilizes test equipment and other diagnostic tools to resolve network distribution issues. Performs field engineering of proposed projects and ensures alternative routing delivers the most cost effective design for construction. Negotiates and approves design or construction changes. Provides direction and participates in the repair of escalated technical issues. Directs the activities of the systems work force, identifies problems and implements corrective solutions. This position performs preventative maintenance on distribution networks by conducting amp sweeps, checking forward and return signal transmission, measuring signal leakage, ingress, and noise; and evaluating power supply issues. May perform daily monitoring and documentation. May perform quality assurance field checks for new plant activation. May have other duties as assigned. This position requires on-call duties and may require work outside of normal business hours in order to complete maintenance or outages.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Associates degree in electronics or related, or equivalent work experience
  • NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E certifications a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in CATV (Cable Television) OSP infrastructure design and construction including node splits, plant extensions, and building entrance facilities
  • Familiarity with CATV Node Splits is a plus
  • Working knowledge of telecom, fiber, wireless, and hybrid fiber coaxial infrastructure design and construction principles for CATV and Telecom plant required
  • Understanding of OSP construction processes and work flows
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required
  • Knowledge of basic installation procedures for telephone and DSL service
  • Experience and knowledge with TELCO underground and aerial cable
  • Knowledge and practice of safety regulations in performing job duties
  • Experience in operating a bucket truck
  • Ability to work from a ladder and aloft in aerial bucket
  • Ability to work independently and get along with co-workers
  • Must be willing to work Saturdays and emergency callouts
