Dial-up Internet access is a form of Internet access that uses the facilities of the public switched telephone network (PSTN) to establish a dialed connection to an Internet service provider (ISP) via telephone lines.

Common Error Codes
The following are the most common dial up error codes that are encountered. If an error is discovered, that is not in this list, please feel free to contact us and let us know about it!
Error 618 : The port is not open.
- Restart your computer.
- Exit any programs that use your modem such as fax software.
- Hold down the keys Ctrl, Alt and Delete. If you can see “Rnaapp” running, click it to highlight it and select “End task”. Try again.
- If the above fails, consult a third-party technician or the modem's manufacturer
Error 676 : The line is busy.
- Reboot your computer, and re-test the connection
- Ensure your connection is showing the right dial up number
- Add two commas before the dial up number to make it pause before dialing, e.g. ,,0198379000
- Dial the number on a normal handset and see if you get a busy signal, a recorded message, or whether you hear some of the same noises your modem makes
Error 678 : There is no answer.
- Is there a modem handshake sound? If not the telephone access number is probably wrong in some way.
- Disable Area Code and Dialing Properties. If the area code and Dialing properties are set incorrectly, this error may results
- Try lowering the fifo buffers, setting the max speed to 57600 in your modems settings.
- Try adding several commas after the access number. eg: 570-555-5555,,,
- If the above fails, consult a third-party technician or the modem's manufacturer
Error 680 : There is no dial tone.
This error is generally caused by a faulty modem, faulty modem cable, faulty phone line, or you are dialing on a non-standard phone line.
- Test modem by dialing a number through Hyper-terminal or phone dialer. This will test the Modem without using Dial up Networking.
- Check to ensure that you have a phone cable going from the modem on the computer into an active phone jack.
- Check that you phone line is working with a normal phone.
- Make sure the phone line you are trying to dial on is not a non-standard line, this can cause problems also.
- If the above fails, consult a third-party technician or the modem's manufacturer.
Error 691 : Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the domain.
- Confirm Username and Password by re-entering your credentials
- Check capitol letters, as credentials are case sensitive.
- If you are on the local servers, ensure you are not entering the full e mail address fur the username. (i.e. example@netnitco.net)
- If you are on the national servers, ensure that you are using the full e mail address for the username (i.e. example@netnitco.net)
- If the above fails, please contact customer service, and we can verify your credentials as long as you are on the account and can verify other information.
