Using VoIP Phone service
What is VoIP?
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) uses an Internet connection to place and receive calls. A regular phone is connected to a VoIP adapter that is then connected to a broadband connection.
VoIP Dialing Instructions
Dialing from VoIP service is similar to dialing from a normal land line.
- Retrieve the number to the person you want to speak to.
- Dial the area code for the person you want to reach. You do not need to dial a 1 before the area code.
- Dial the telephone number just as you would a land line number.
- Hit the # sign to complete your dialing and to process the call, or you can wait a few seconds for the call to complete automatically.
Caller ID Name and Number
Allows the customer to receive the calling party's directory number on incoming calls. Feature is available with the ability to display number only or both name and number.
Voice Mail
Replaces your answering machine and allows callers to leave you a message even when you are on the phone. Messages can be retrieved from anywhere.
To setup your voice mail service
- Dial *98
- When the default greeting plays press #
- Enter the Security code 9999
- Tutorial will then start and walk you through setting up your greeting and new security code
To access your voice mail from your phone
- Dial *98
- Wait for your greeting and then press # and enter your security code
- Follow prompts to listen to message, change greeting or perform other task
To access your voice mail while away from home
- Dial your home number and wait for your greeting
- Press # then enter your security code
- Follow prompts to listen to message, change greeting or perform other task
Call Waiting
When you are on the phone a beep tone tells you that a second person is calling.
How to use call waiting
- To end first call to answer the second call hang up and second call will ring your phone
- To put first call on hold, press the flash button
- To switch between parties quickly press the flash button
Call Forwarding
Lets you transfer incoming calls to other phones that you can dial direct. While calls are being transferred you can still make calls as normal. Incoming calls to your number will cause the phone to ring but you will not be able to answer the call. *
How to use call forwarding
- Dial *72, you will hear a different pitch tone
- Dial the number that you wish to forward your calls to. You will hear two short tones then a normal dial tone.
- To turn off call forwarding on your line dial *73, then you will hear a normal dial tone.
Three Way Calling
Lets you add a 3rd party to an existing conversation without operator assistance.
How to use 3-way calling
- Press and release the flash button to put call on hold and listen for a higher pitch dial tone
- Dial the number of the third person
- Press and release the flash button again to connect all parties
Automatic Callback
Enables the customer to automatically redial the most recent incoming call. The feature cannot be activated for calls originating from a line that is forwarded or from a line not associated with a telephone number.
How to use automatic callback
- Dial *69 to activate.
Automatic Redial
Enables the customer to automatically redial the last outgoing telephone number dialed. When the number is busy, repeated attempts to connect are made for the next 30 minutes. A special ring will let you know when your call is ready.
How to use automatic redial
- Dial *66 to activate.
* If you have a message rate service, incoming calls to your phone which are forwarded on and completed correctly as an outgoing call are counted as an outgoing call in your monthly 30 call limit. If the number you are forwarding to falls outside of your local calling area long distance rates will apply.
