NITCO Helps Fight for the Cure

The Northwestern Indiana Telephone Company, plans on donating to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. October 1st kicks off NITCO’s “Fight For the Cure” initiative. Throughout the month, for every new NITCO DSL customer, $10.00 will be given to the SGK Foundation.

Breast Cancer Awareness is something NITCO strongly stands behind, and encourages others to “Fight for the Cure.” This disease is something that has touched us personally within our NITCO family, explains Rick Doyle, NITCO General Manager. “We are proud to join this fight against breast cancer,” says Doyle. NITCO understands that this is a small step in the grand journey, but wants to play a part in increasing knowledge and understanding of breast cancer.

This effort has been an annual initiative, but this is the first time to be done publicly. NITCO has high hopes that the public awareness this creates will encourage others to get involved in any way they can.

Beware of Classified Scams

It has come to our attention that some classified users have been receiving fraudulent offers on their postings. Here are some tips to avoid being a victim of internet fraud:

  • Deal locally with people you can meet in person, preferably in a public area.
  • Do not wire funds with services like Western Union or Moneygram.
  • Be aware of fake cashier checks or money orders. Banks may hold you responsible if you cash them.
  • NEVER give out any personal financial information. (SSN#, bank account #, passwords, etc)

NITCO Donates to the American Legion

May served the American Legion, Wilson Bates Post 190 well. NITCO’s pledge to match any donation given to the legion (up to $1,500) was able to assist in the construction of a memorial. Commander, Don Fry, was hopeful that there would be enough funds for the construction to be erected by Memorial Day; his hopefulness, along with NITCO, and community support paid off. The memorial was presented to the public at the Memorial Day Ceremony on the Hebron Cemetery grounds.

NITCO Stands Behind American Legion

DSCN3756.JPG
With Memorial Day approaching, Northwestern Indiana Telephone Company (NITCO) wishes to memorialize those who have fought for our country, and hopes the community will join with its initiative in the month of May. Throughout the month, NITCO will match any monetary donation made to American Legion, Wilson Bates Post 190. This initiative will contribute to the design and materials for a monument honoring veterans buried in a nondescript section of the Hebron Cemetery.

There are 28 fallen veteran’s grave markers that are either unrecognizable, or even missing. Since these grave markers are no longer visible, it is impossible to honor these men appropriately on military holidays, explains Donald R. Fry, Post 190 Adjutant. Fry further explains the minimum cost of the project is approximately $3,025.00 for the stone and its engraving. NITCO is offering to match dollar for dollar any donation given up to $1,500.00 through May. The initial plan was to construct an engraved memorial by Memorial Day this year; however, the donations will determine the fate of the memorial’s actual construction date.

The veteran’s section of the cemetery, located on the north west corner, is the oldest section. Its historical richness is fascinating; nonetheless, it has experienced the erosion of its record. There are graves that represent veterans who fought in the Civil War, Spanish American War, and World War I. Rick Doyle, General Manager at NITCO says, “We at NITCO are proud of those who are currently serving, or have served our country. We respect the sacrifices they and their families have made. We also believe that it is very important to never forget those no longer with us who served in the past and risked their lives to pay the ultimate price for our liberty.” The donations will help present these soldiers in a new light.
